Curriculum Intent:

The digital world is an exciting, creative, and ever-changing part of our children’s lives. At Keinton Mandeville Primary School, we aim to prepare our pupils to engage positively and confidently with technology. Computing is not just about using devices—it’s about understanding how they work, creating with them, and using them responsibly.

Through high-quality teaching and the KAPOW Primary Computing scheme, we enable children to become digital creators, problem-solvers, investigators, researchers, communicators, and responsible citizens. Our curriculum is built around five key areas:

  • Technology in Our Lives
  • Programming
  • Handling Data
  • Multimedia Use and Creation
  • Online Safety

We want children to develop strong digital literacy and experience a balance of direct teaching, open-ended challenges, and investigative tasks that encourage curiosity and creativity.

Our overarching concepts are:

  • Computer Science – understanding how computers and networks work and learning to code.
  • Information Technology – using technology to collect, store, and present information effectively.
  • Digital Literacy – developing skills to communicate and collaborate online.
  • E-Safety – learning to stay safe, respectful, and responsible in the digital world.

By providing these opportunities, we aim for our pupils to be confident, competent, and creative users of technology—ready to navigate the digital world safely and positively.
