Religion and Worldview Education
At Keinton Mandeville Primary School, Religious Education helps children develop an understanding of different religions, beliefs and worldviews, while encouraging curiosity, respect and reflection. Following the Somerset Agreed Syllabus, pupils explore Christianity, Hindu Dharma, Judaism and non-religious worldviews through engaging enquiry questions and discussion-based learning.
Children learn about beliefs, practices and traditions, consider different viewpoints, and reflect on their own ideas and values. Through RE, pupils develop the knowledge and skills needed to understand and respect the diverse society in which they live, preparing them to become thoughtful, informed and responsible citizens.
Our curriculum is designed to help pupils:
- Develop knowledge of religious and non-religious worldviews.
- Ask thoughtful questions and explore different perspectives.
- Understand how beliefs influence people's lives and communities.
- Reflect on their own values and experiences.
- Show respect, empathy and understanding towards others.
Through visits, visitors and first-hand experiences, we aim to make RE relevant, engaging and meaningful for all children.

Right to withdraw

Parents have the right to withdraw their children from RE in all types of schools, including those with or without a religious designation. This right is not influenced by the school.
- Parents who wish to withdraw their children from RE should be aware of its aims and what is covered in the RE curriculum and that they are given the opportunity to discuss this if they wish. It should be made clear whether the withdrawal is from the whole RE curriculum or specific parts of it. No reasons need be given.
